Thyroid Dysfunction
« Back to index
Low thyroid function seems to be cropping up ever more frequently.
A likely cause is fluoride in toothpaste. Fluoride is known to have an inhibiting effect on the
thyroid. It has been noticed that fluoride has a downing effect on thyroid function in the areas
where it is deliberately added to the tap water.
The inside of the mouth is very close, in the facial geography, to the thyroid. It is likely that
that this is a reason.
The following toothpastes are fluoride free:- Tom of Maine’s, Aloe Vera, Nelson’s, Euthymol, Kingfisher.
(Kingfisher is now also available free from Sodium Laurel Sulphate. This is a bonus!). However, some of it
has fluoride – check the box.
To nourish the thyroid, Kelp (which has iodine in it), Vitamin B1, Vitamin E, Manganese, and Lecithin to
help the absorption of the Manganese will all be helpful.
As the thyroid needs Manganese to function, there may also be some problems stemming from the use of the
organophosphate pesticides. Avoid using or being around them as much as you can (See Section on Pesticides).
Eat organic, don’t spray in the house or the garden. Don’t treat the pets for fleas, or the children with OP
shampoo for head-lice. Beware of moth proofed furnishings etc., carpets, curtains and bedding.
To help absorb the Manganese, we give Nicotinamide first to help clear the OPs through the liver.
Then take Lecithin granules with the Manganese to facilitate absorption.
I would also have some reflexology to try to stimulate the thyroid directly, and possibly some
homeopathy to treat for any infections that could be inhibiting function.
I would also get checked out for any electromagnetic pollution in the home. It is worth leaving no
stone unturned as poor thyroid function can lead on to conditions such as M.E. as well as infertility.
