Insomnia

One cause for sleeplessness at least in the towns, is, I believe the very bright street lighting.
I gather it has been mooted by Government that these could be turned off from midnight to 06.00 am,
and I think this is an excellent idea. The reduction in wastage of rate-payers money and global fuel
resources would be staggering. The reduction in global warming would be significant
(particularly if the idea caught on in other countries) and millions of people would sleep much better!
The scheme was piloted in one town we are told, but this was very clumsily handled, as people were not
informed in advance. Obviously, there was panic as they imagined there had been a catastrophic power breakdown,
or worse, a terrorist take over!
People should be told at least a month in advance so they can look at their nighttime security, and if necessary,
invest in another bolt, some window bars, “courtesy” lights, a torch, or whatever seems to be needed. In this case,
rather than start a crime-wave, it might succeed in making houses and public buildings impenetrable. This also should
help patterns of sleep!
Another factor of quite recent origin is the proliferation of electromagnetic pollution.
Tetra masts, mobile phone masts etc. give out a lot of electro-smog that can have a very disturbing affect.
(See Section on Electromagnetic Pollution). Do not leave the TV, washing machine and so on, on stand-by. Do not have
a DECT walk-about phone. Try suggestions on Electromagnetic Pollution Section to reduce vulnerability to rays from
neighbours houses if attached.
I would not sleep on a metal bedstead or on a metal sprung mattress, especially if I were in a town or close
to any masts or boosters. You can get coconut hair, wool and latex foam mattresses from Green Fibres in Devon,
Abacus in South Wales, and Healthy House in Gloucestershire (See Useful Addresses).
From www.powerwatch.co.uk you can hire a little device called an Acousticon which can pick up the electric
rays and make a noise so you can detect exactly how much is coming from what! Special wallpaper, paint and
net curtains are available that are designed to keep it out, if it is from next door!
I used to live in Godalming and I can tell you the High Street buzzes from end to end! There is a mobile phone mast at
each end, and a booster stuck on a shop opposite the Crown Hotel! This will not be good news for anyone trying to sleep
in a home in the High Street!
Apart from unnatural light and electrical devices there are all the old fashioned reasons for sleeplessness! Too much
coffee, chocolate, tea, cheese etc. Too much alcohol (short of knock-out!) and smoking. A number of medical drugs
do the same, and so do some of the food additives. (See “Find Out”). Hot milk at bedtime was always thought to be
helpful as is a Calcium supplement. Foods you are allergic to may figure. So may hunger due to anorexia, and/or bloating
due to over indulgence!
First, I would try getting a black handkerchief to put over your eyes to cut out the light, and second I would get Roy Riggs,
www.royriggs.co.uk go over the house for electromagnetic pollution. Always have a window open for fresh air, and always turn off all the stand by’s.!
Again, anyone out there with good ideas, do write in and we will pass them on.
