Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) & Stomach Cramps
« Go back
Bowel cramps may be an allergy, the most obvious ones being gluten, cows milk or citrus fruits.
(See Section on Allergy).
It may also be due to some noxious substance in the tap water such as fluoride, chlorine or a toxic metal.
A lot of our drinking water has extra amounts of lead and copper due to old plumbing methods. These metals
corrode where they join, which means there are plenty of houses in the UK with high levels in the water. Some
areas may have high levels of aluminum, due to aluminum gel being added to the water as a flocculent,
i.e. to catch peaty particles. Peat adheres to it, and the expectation is that both are caught in a sort of
comb-like filter where the water leaves the reservoir. Sometimes, it seems, the filter is damaged and does not
work very well, and the water ends up with quite a lot of aluminum in it.
Aluminium is a known stomach irritant. For this reason be very careful to study the labels on all antacid tablets,
as quite a lot of them contain aluminium. This no doubt increases sales.
See also a copy of “Find Out” for the food additives that cause stomach/ bowel irritation.
Forebiotics will be a part of your Foresight programme and will help to normalize bowel function.
Again another reason can be intestinal parasites. These are quite easy to pick up and quite hard to get rid of.
We suggest you visit a homeopath or nutritionist, (we can probably find one near to you,
unless you live in a very far-away location). They will arrange a stool test.
Alternatively, Lynn Alford-Burow (London) is able to arrange a test with a few strands of hair, pulled from the head,
bulb and all, which can be tested for DNA anomalies, which, I am told, reveal reasons for bowel dysfunction linked to
the make-up of the intestinal flora. Lynn has written a passage on this in our new book. The procedure is new to me,
so I cannot give any anecdotal histories of response or not. I would be interested to hear of any, however, so let
me know. Lynn can then advise on suitable treatments. Ainsworth’s Homeopathic Chemists will also provide remedies
for most infestations, so long as you can tell them what you have.
Another reliable source has told me that 500 mg a day of garlic oil will clear the bowel of most unwanted inhabitants
within three months. This approach has the merit of being very cheap, and very easy, as well as generally being very
beneficial to your general health, even if not to your social life!
After any of these treatments Forebiotics will restore the beneficial flora that inhabit a normal healthy
bowel once again.
