Epilepsy

Unless caused by a specific head injury, epilepsy appears to be caused by Manganese deficiency!

Manganese is necessary to carry oxygen to the mitochondria of the brain cell. If it is not present in sufficient quantity, many things can go wrong with brain function. The problems with Manganese absorption are caused by the organophosphate pesticides.(See Section on Pesticides).

The work of Riopelle and Hubard showed that baby rats who were Manganese deficient, when placed on their backs, could not “right themselves”. i.e. they did not know how to roll over. This is very atypical behaviour in baby rats and shows a degree of brain malfunction.

The work of Saner et.al. was with human mothers who were Manganese deficient for one reason or another, and showed how terrible anomalies of the central nervous system resulted from this, including spina bifida, hydrocephalus and similar.

Work on Manganese deficiency by Carl Pfieffer of New Jersey, Passwater and Cranton (USA), Underwood of Australia and Oberleas and Caldwell of Wayne State University, USA underlines all of this. I will reproduce their work and give the references in the Section on Trace Minerals.

The work on organophosphate contamination and fits by Duffy of Harvard University Medical School, and D.V. Roberts in Devon and A. Andrews of MAFF exactly compliments all of this, linking organophosphate contamination in monkeys, cats and domestic livestock with fits and incapacitation.

Some of the symptoms of the illness called ME is likely to be down to OPs, although there are other contributory causes.

A great friend of mine was in a boat on the Thames some years ago when a crop sprayer in a nearby field swung round soaking her and her clothing in pesticide. It was some time before she could get home and change and bath, by which time she was very badly damaged and has been very ill ever since and partially paralysed.

Other causes of Manganese deficiency can be heavy metals, over high copper, the pill, alcohol and smoking – all the usual modern baddies!

To mitigate the organophosphate poisoning – there is research by M.K. Johnson of the MRC saying that nicotinamide is the only substance that will take organophosphates out of the body via the liver. So it is helpful to take this in combination with our Vitamin C and Garlic which also has milk thistle, a good help for liver cleansing, and Vitamins B1 and B12. The Manganese should be taken in combination with lecithin which helps its absorption.

However, I would try to make sure the lecithin is not made from genetically modified soya or corn. I am told GM stuff is now being imported from the States incognito. I gather the Americans have asked to be allowed NOT to label it as such, as we Europeans do not want to eat it if it is labeled GM.(?!?).

Presumably however, those who produce non GM crops, will realise we DO want to eat their stuff, so hopefully will be kind enough (and shrewd enough!) to label it for us as free from GM.

Some of the drugs for epilepsy contain copper or aluminium, which will, of course, chase down the Manganese, and prolong the likelihood of fits. It is important to study the labels to avoid these. Always check prescribed drugs for their components on the web.

If you would like a hair analysis and programme we are very willing to do this. There may be factors such as high levels of toxic metals or copper that are keeping the Manganese down.

There are also electromagnetic issues to do with epilepsy. I would also look at the Section on Electromagnetism.
